Septic Systems

Septic Pumping

In most cases, we believe septic tanks should be pumped every 1 to 3 years. Several factors may come into play such as the number of people occupying the home or business, bacteria levels, filters, drain field conditions and rainfall. If a tank is neglected for over 3 years, then sludge or other waste products may clog the drain field with what is known as a biomat. The drainfield is the most expensive part of your septic system. Scheduled pumpings can extend the life of the drainfield and save considerable money over time. In addition to pumping the tank, a filter may also be clogged. WE OFFER FREE FILTER CLEANING WITH A SEPTIC TANK PUMPOUT!

Filters

Filters can be tricky. You never know when one will clog up enough to stop liquid from leaving your tank. The result is slow drainage or bubbling followed by an imminent backup. We cannot tell you the amount of times we are called out on a special event or holiday where there are a lot of people visiting and the clogged filter spoils the party. We recommend cleaning the filter every 18 to 24 months to avoid a costly and embarrassing inconvenience. Hair is a big problem with a lot of filters, so keep this in mind after bathing a pet or cleaning the drain cover in your shower. Although filters are required by the state of Florida on new systems built after January 1, 1998, earlier systems may be equipped with one. They are designed to keep harmful elements from getting into your drain field. Unpredictable as they are, filters can be an aggravation or a savior for the costly drain field. WE OFFER FREE FILTER CLEANING WITH A SEPTIC TANK PUMPOUT!

Jetting

Jetting is a term used for the process of cleaning main lines or drain field pipes. High pressures of water are applied to all points of a pipe to strip away unwanted buildup in the pipes or to blast out clogs. This method is highly successful and will come with a warranty most of the time. When a snake is used to unclog a pipe it may only bore a hole in the obstruction, whereas the jetter will clean the entire width of the pipe. Restaurants with grease buildup can utilize this service as maintenance before the emergency that could possibly shut it down. In some cases, even drain fields can be cleaned this way to extend the life of the field. This process will require a county health department permit for drainfield use but not in unclogging main lines of homes and businesses.

Drain fields

A drain field is simply a series of pipes or plastic chambers that take the affluent or liquid from the septic tank and leach it into the surrounding area. Besides sludge, other sources of destruction to a drain field include but are not limited to roots, over-saturation, and damaged components such as pipes. If drainage problems occur, this does not necessarily indicate that your drain field has failed. For example, it is possible that the filter could be clogged. We would prefer to speak to you directly if you have any questions about your drain field. We will give you a free estimate. In most cases, we will have to open your system to diagnose the problem. However, the cost of the diagnosis may be applied toward the cost of the work necessary to correct the problem. We can pull all necessary permits for you.

Bacteria

The presence of bacteria is healthy in a septic system. Bacteria breaks down solid wastes and keeps them from building up to the point of a septic tank backup. The state of Florida is very concerned about the use of chemicals and only endorses natural products for septic systems. We offer bacteria to our customers only when necessary. Sometimes the natural bacteria in sewage are enough to do the job. Other times, antiseptics such as soap or bleach can kill the helpful bacteria requiring that more bacteria be added. If possible, one should not allow an excessive amount of cleansers to enter the septic system. The best way to know if your system needs bacteria is to visually inspect it for heavy solid build-up.
